Our entire collection of Joomla templates are all hand-coded without the use of any third party programs. Our Joomla templates are easy to use since they require no "suffixes" to work correctly. We’ll start with the assumption that you have a Joomla site with 1.7 (or higher) already installed on the server. If you do not have Joomla 1.7 (or higher) installed, ask your web host to install it for you. Our templates will not work on Joomla 1.5 or lower.
Joomla is a content management system that does not require a program installed on your computer in order to use it. It is similar to WordPress in that you can edit the content online and once you save it, your content is visible to your visitors. One of the great things about Joomla is that you can edit your site from any computer that is connected to the internet. Another great thing about Joomla is that once your content is in the database, you can change the look of your site just by assigning the content to your new modules.
There is a learning curve with Joomla, as with any program that you've just opened. You will need some training on how to do it. With that in mind, we've created an inexpensive eBook to get you started. This tutorial is not everything you need to know about Joomla, but it will get you started. You can purchase our eBook through our shopping cart. It comes with a free Joomla template so you can start practicing now for only $10! See our Resources page for more information. In fact, we recommend that you purchase the eBook prior to purchasing a template if you are a first time user.
You'll download the zip file and save it in an easily accessible place. Your desktop is a good place for the zip file. You'll need a zip program in order to unzip the file. At Templates in Time, we use WinZip. You can Google "Free unzip programs" and find lots of them. Don't delete the zip file, just save it. You never know when the web gremlins will mess up your web, so always keep a backup!
After you've unzipped the file, you'll find another zipped file inside.
Don't unzip this one! This zipped file has all of the information Joomla
needs to set up your new look. Sign into your Joomla site, then go to
“Extensions” then “Extensions Manager. Browse to your zip file and upload
it. You will get a message saying that the installation was accepted.
You still won’t see your template; you’ll need to activate it.Once you
install it into Joomla, you'll need to choose the template for it to become
active.
In order to add the remainder of the images to give the template its completed look, you’ll need to add images using the Media Manager. The other images, such as the logo or nameplate will need to be installed in the media folder. Upload them to the Media Manager one at a time.
You'll need to add your categories, articles and then menus. As you add those items, you'll also be selecting the module positions for your content.
Once you've finished with your content, just make it live with a few clicks!
